Protesters react angrily to Jean-Marie Le Pen's visit
Protesters have reacted angrily to Jean-Marie Le Pen's visit to the UK.
Eggs were hurled at the French far-right leader's car as he tried to leave a Cheshire hotel.
Others threw rubbish bins at his vehicle just outside the Cresta Court building in Altrincham where he endorsed the British National Party.
Over 100 demonstrators, who chanted slogans, turned up despite the fact the BNP kept the venue a secret until the last minute.
Police and private security officers tried to protect Mr Le Pen inside his vehicle as he tried to slip by the protesters.
Demonstrators chanted "black and white unite and fight", and "the BNP is a Nazi party".
One anti-BNP protester, Alec McFadden, described Le Pen as a "well known fascist."
"He is someone who denies the Holocaust, someone who has done everything possible in his own country to divide the community," he added.
Angry shouts
Earlier, the angry shouts of the groups could be heard when Mr Le Pen and BNP leader Nick Griffin held a news conference inside.
Asked what he would say to those angry over his presence in the UK, Mr Le Pen said through a translator: "The message is quite simple. We should tell them to cool down. The purpose of the visit is not to incite trouble."
Meanwhile hundreds of protesters gathered in Birmingham's Victoria Square to demonstrate against Le Pen's visit.
Many held placards bearing anti-BNP slogans and chants of "BNP out, Nazis out" filled the square.

Home secretary David Blunkett said Mr Le Pen was an EU citizen and had the right to travel.
But on Sunday Mr Blunkett told the BBC: "I'd rather Mr Le Pen wasn't here. I'd rather the British National Party didn't exist in our country."
Mr Blunkett said Mr Le Pen was free to come and go as long as he "behaves himself."
"If he incites or causes public disorder the police will act immediately and I will give them any support they need."
Speaking on BBC One's Breakfast with Frost programme, Mr Blunkett added: "I think it's extraordinary that a fascist right-wing party should be inviting a foreigner to come and give them their support. But they're full of hypocrisy and contradictions."
But Mr Griffin told reporters it made sense for nationalists to work together.
He said: "Unless the nationalists of Europe cooperate, the internationalists of Europe - the Eurocrats - will destroy all our national freedoms and identities separately."
Push to the polls
On Sunday evening, Mr Le Pen is to address a black-tie dinner in Shropshire.
The location of the event - billed as the "the patriotic dinner of the year" by the BNP - is being kept secret. Mr Le Pen's visit is designed as a boost to the BNP's European election efforts.
It was arranged by Mr Griffin, who says a "nationalist" presence in the European Parliament could affect immigration policies.
Trade unions and anti-fascist groups say Mr Le Pen's presence will inflame racial tensions and "pose a danger to all".
The BNP says the reaction to the visit shows other parties' fear
Ken Livingstone, London mayor and chair of Unite Against Fascism, said: "We should ... learn the lesson of France, that it is possible for fascists to gain a hearing by seeking to appear as legitimate politicians."
"The vast majority of people in Britain abhor fascism and racism and everything Le Pen stands for.
"That opinion must be mobilised wherever fascism raises its head. Le Pen is a fascist and not welcome here."
Mr Le Pen caused shock waves across Europe when he took second place in the French presidential elections in 2002.
He was stripped of his European Parliament seat after an assault he made on Socialist politician, Annette Peulvast-Bergeal, in 1997.
Mr Le Pen has been convicted of racism or anti-Semitism at least six times. |

LA VISITA DE LE PEN AL REGNE UNIT ENCEN LES PROTESTES

Els manifestants han reaccionat molt emprenyats a la visita de Le Pen al Regne Unit. Van llençar-se ous al cotxe del cap de la extrema dreta francesa quan tractava de deixar un hotel a Cheshire.
Altre van llençar-hi cubells de brossa al seu vehicle justament afora de l'edifici de Cresta Court a Altrincham, on va anar a recolzar el British National Party.
Uns cent manifestants aproximadament, que cridaven consignes, van apareixer encara que el BNP va mantindre l'acte en secret fins el darrer minut.
La policia i agents de seguretat privada van mirar de protegir Le Pen dins el seu cotxe al temps que mirava de passar entre els manifestants.
Els manifestants cridaven "negres i blancs units i lluitant" i "el BNP és un partit nazi".
Un manifestant anti-BNP, Alec McFadden, ha descrit Le Pen com un "feixista ben conegut".
"Ell és algú que nega l'Holocaust, que ha fet tot el possible al seu mateix pais per dividir la gent", va afegir.
Crits emprenyats
Abans, els crits emprenyats d'aquests grups van poder escoltar-se quan Le Pen i el cap del BNP Nick Griffin van fer una roda de prensa a dintre.
Demanat pel que diría a tothom emprenyat per la seva presència al Regne Unit, Le Pen va dir mitjançant un traductor: "El missatge és prou senzill. Hauríem de dir-los que es calmessim. El propòsit d'aquesta visita no és la d'esperonar aldarulls.
Alhora d'aixó centenars de manifestants s'aplegaven a la plaça de Victòria a Birmingham per protestar contra la visita de Le Pen.
Molts duien pancartes on es llegien eslògans anti-BNP i cridaven "BNP fòra, nazis fòra", omplint la plaça.

El ministre de l'interior, David Blunkett, va dir que Le Pen és un ciutadà de la UE i que té dret a viatjar-hi dins aquesta.
Tanmateix el diumenge Mr Blunkett va dir a la BBC: "M'estimaria més que Le Pen no fos aquí. M'estimaría més que el BNP no existís al nostre pais."
Mr Blunkett va dir que Le Pen era lliure d venir i anar-se'n sempre que "es comportés amb correcció".
"Si indueix o enceta disordres públics la policía actuarà immediatament i els donaré qualsevol suport que els calgui."
Parlant a "L'esmorzar" a la BBC One al programa de Frost, Mr Blunkett va afegir: "Crec increible que un partit d'extrema dreta feixista convidi un extranger a venir i donar-li el seu suport. Pero estan plens d'hipocresía i contradiccions."
Malgrat aixó Griffin va dir als periodistes que és normal que els feixistes treballin plegats.
Va dir: "Si els feixistes europeus no col.laboren, els internaciolistes europeus ens destruiràn."
Cop a les enquestes
Diumenge al vespre, Le Pen s'adreçarà a un dinar de gent encorbata a Shropshire.
La localització de l'esdeveniment -titllat com "el dinar patriòtic de l'any" pel BNP- és manté en secret. La visita de Le Pen esta dissenyada com a un estimulant als esforços del BNP a les eleccions europees.
Va ser acordada per Griffin, qui diu que la presència "nacionalista" al Parlament Europeu podría afectar les polítiques immigratòries.
Els sindicats i els grups antifeixistes diuen que la presència de Le Pen's encendrà tensions racials i suposen "un perill per tothom".
El BNP diu que la reacció envers la visita mostra la por dels altres partits.
Ken Livingstone, batlle de Londres i responsable d' "Unim-nos contra el feixisme" va dir: "Nosaltres hauríem... d'aprendre la lliço francesa, que es possible pels feixistes d'aconseguir ser escoltats fent-se passar per polítics legítims."
"La gairebé totalitat de la gent a Gran Bretanya menyspreuen el feixisme i el racisme i tot el que Le Pen representa."
"Cal mobilitzar aquesta opinió arreu, a qualsevol lloc on el feixisme aixequi el cap. Le Pen és un feixista i no es benvingut aquí."
Le Pen va causar un xoc arreu d'Europa quan va aconseguir la segona plaça a les eleccions presidencials franceses del 2002.
Va ser foragitat del seu seient al Parlament Europeu desprès d'agredir una política socialista, Annette Peulvast-Bergeal, el 1997.
Le Pen ha estat jutjat per racisme i antisemitisme un mínim de sis vegades.
