African Indymedia conference needs your support

The imc-africa working group is seeking donations to support travel and other expenses of delegates to the upcoming African Indymedia conference in Dakar, Senegal, March 1-14. WITHOUT YOUR HELP DELEGATES FROM ALL OVER AFRICA WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COME TO THE CONFERENCE. |
Since 1999 when the first Independent Media Center formed in the streets of
Seattle the Indymedia network has grown by leaps and bounds. Much of that
development has taken place in the Global North which has a well-developed
multimedia structure that allows for quick and cheap media content. IMCs
in some other parts of the world, notably South America, have grown by
organizing non-hierarchically to make media, despite not having as much
access to multimedia infrastructure.
On the other hand, Indymedia has grown very slowly in Africa. To give
Indymedia Africa the push it needs, the imc-Africa working group, with
support from other activists, is organizing an Alternative (Indymedia)
Conference in Dakar, Senegal, from March 1 to 14, 2004. The main goal of
the conference is to exchange organizing experiences and develop ideas for
growing the Indymedia network throughout Africa. Delegates from IMCs or
forming IMCs in South Africa, Ambazonia(Ex-British Southern Cameroon),
DRCongo, Angola, Kenya, Madiaq (South Spain and Morocco), the Nertherlands,
Germany, Switzerland, UK and the USA have committed to attending. Three
quarters of the delegates will be from Africa.
Unfortunately, international travel within Africa is difficult and
expensive. WE CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE TRAVEL OF
DELEGATES WITHIN AFRICA, nor to pay expenses (food/lodging in Dakar) of
those who cannot afford them in during the conference itself. WE NEED YOUR
HELP TO ASSURE THE CONFERENCE WILL SUCCEED.
We are seeking donations to cover delegates from:
3 from South Africa = 877*3= 2631 Euro
3 from Ambazonia=750*3= 2250 Euro
1 from Congo =1200 Euro
2 from Angola =1100*2=2200 Euro
3 from Kenya=1100*3=3300 Euro
2 from Madiaq(Spain and Morocco) = 450 *2=900 Euro
Total for those confirmed = 12,481Euro
We are also seeking 2,519 Euro for expenses in Dakar. We are therefore
seeking 15,000 Euro total.

La conferencia de Indymedia Africa necesita tu ayuda
por el grupo de trabajo de IMC-AFRICA
El grupo de trabajo de imc-africa esta buscando donaciones para apoyar el viaje y otros gastos de delegados para la próxima conferencia de Indymedia Africana en Dakar, Senegal, Marzo 1-14. SIN VUESTRA AYUDA DELEGAD*S DE TODA AFRICA NO SERAN CAPACES DE VENIR A LA CONFERENCIA.
Desde 1999 cuando el primer Independent Media Center se formo en las calles de Seattle, la rede Indymedia ha crecido velozmente. La mayoria de ese crecimiento ha tenido lugar en el Norte Global el cual tiene una estructura multimedia bien desarrollada que permite un contenido media rapido y barato. IMCs en algunas otras partes del mundo, como Sudamerica, han crecido organizandose no-jerarquicamente para hacer media, a persar de no tener demasidado acceso a infraestructura multimedia.
Por otro lado, Indymedia ha crecido muy lentamente en Africa. Para dar el empujon que necesita Indymedia Africa, el grupo de trabajo de esta esta organizando una Conferencia Alternativa (Indymedia) en Dakar, Senegal, del 1 al 14 de marzo del 2004. El principal proposito de la conferencia es intercambiar experiencias organizativas y desarrollar ideas para crecer la red Indymedia por toda Africa. Delegad*s de IMCs o originarios IMCs en Sudafrica, Ambazonia (antiguo sur de la exbritanica Camerun), DRCongo, Angola, Kenya, Madiaq (Sur del estado español y Marruecos), Holanda, Alemania, Suiza, Inglaterra y USA se han comprometido a atender. Tres cuartas partes de l*s delegad*s serán de Africa.
Desgraciadamente, viajar internacionalmente en Africa es dificil y caro. ACTUALMENTE NO TENEMOS FONDOS PARA APOYAR EL VIAJE DE L*S DELEGAD*S EN AFRICA, tampoco para pagar gastos (comida/alojamiento en Dakar) de aquell*s que no pueden financiarse durante la conferencia. NECESITAMOS VUESTRA AYUDA PARA ASEGURAR QUE LA CONFERENCIA TENDRA EXITO.
