An Appeal to All Anti-imperialist Cultural Activists, Intellectuals and People
We are living in times when the imperialist onslaught is affecting all the spheres of life in every nook and corner of this world. On the other side, forces opposing imperialist globalisation and war are getting organized to put up a united fight. Anti-WTO protests, anti-Iraq war demonstrations, organized militant revolutionary movements against imperialists and their stooges in different countries are intensifying. People are adopting various forms and tactics to fight their enemy. Intensifying struggles against imperialism in all fronts is the only way before us. Unless we wage political, economic, militant, cultural battles we cannot smash imperialism.
Mumbai Resistance-2004 is an attempt to bring all the anti-imperialist forces together to discuss and devise the strategies and course of action in this direction.
The Waves of Cultural Resistance is a part of MR-2004, which recognizes the importance of cultural offensive against imperialism. Unless and until we organize ourselves to fight back the cultural onslaught of the imperialists it is not possible to arose the masses to fight their enemy. While the reactionaries have their modern technology and media in their hands to propagate and justify their exploitation, our strength lies in unity and resistance in the interest of the human society. Our efforts have to be channelised in a creative way to raise the anti-imperialist consciousness among the masses and establish people’s culture. The Waves of Cultural Resistance is a modest attempt to bring all the anti-imperialist writers, performing artists, painters, photographers, filmmakers, and intellectuals together.
In this event we are planning to organize exhibition of paintings, cartoons, posters, sculptures, poetry session and documentary and film shows. On 19th January a whole day is allotted for performing arts in which various cultural troupes from India and some foreign countries are expected to participate. The focus of this cultural event will be resistance to imperialism and establishing people’s culture.
We appeal to all the democratic, progressive, revolutionary cultural activists, intellectuals and masses to participate in this event. We invite you to bring your works, perform and enrich this cultural event. We also appeal to donate generously in cash or kind to make this event a great success. Let’s join hands in this attempt so that we can defeat Imperialist Globalization and war and ultimately smash imperialism. Let’s dream about a people’s world and transform it into a reality where exploitation has no place.
