In this case, amongst many incidents, an elderly protester against police brutality was indeed brutally attacked by french riot cops. As it can be seen in the video, the protester is being attacked from behind by a riot policeman that forcefully throws him on the ground and tries to strangle him next to a teargas canister spewing asphyxiating smoke. As it may be seen later the protester has been taken behind a fire brigade by several riot policemen and despite the fact that he is passed out and cannot breathe, the riot cops instead of helping him they only care to hide him behind a supermarket trolley.

The protest against police brutality in Nantes was organized as a vigil for the death of 24 years old, that drowned in the River Loire following a police raid at an open concert (Fête de la Musique) on the banks of the Loire during the night of 21 June. He was among several people who fell into the river after a violent police charge while many concert goers had been blinded by the police tear gas. The 24-year-old's body was found in the river after 38 days. During the vigil more than 40 protesters were arrested and many were injured by the police, including a 54-year-old man who had suffered a heart attack last month.

Other demonstrations against the french police cover-up took place in several other cities across France, (notably in Paris, Montpelier and Toulouse), some organised by the "yellow jackets" protest movement.
