Political writing contest turns focus to US health care debate
09 jul 2012
Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, how will the health care debate play out in the 2012 presidential campaign?

That’s a pretty wide open question, but it begs another question: Is it even possible to have a constructive debate about health care in the United States of America?

That depends on if a consensual end game can be established, or at least enough of a shared vision as to how we would like to see our health care system reformed. But is the country so divided over health care that it’s impossible to reach a workable consensus on what we as a nation want that reform to look like? That’s a tougher question still.

Health care is going to be a top-tier issue throughout Campaign 2012. Allvoices writers have a golden opportunity to speak up on the topics of how they think the health care debate will play out, how they would like to see it play out and how they think the future of health care in the United States will affect their own lives.

In addition to competing for the $250 prize and advancement in The American Pundit contest, this topic gives you a chance to share your own best thoughts about the politics of health care with a much wider audience than you might find at the family dinner table, the office lunch room or the corner bar. We invite everyone reading this “call for submissions” to weigh in on the topic at any time between now and Election Day, but especially over the next week. If you’re already an Allvoices contributor, simply check The American Pundit prompt you get in the process of publishing your story.
