14 mai 2012
Washington, DC -- May 9, 2012 -- The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights is proud to welcome Santiago A. Canton as Director of the RFK Partners for Human Rights program. In his new role, Canton will develop and oversee the partnerships and strategic goals of the program, and will coordinate the annual nominating process for the RFK Human Rights Award.
For the last 11 years, Canton has served as Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, a role which followed his years as Director for Latin America and the Caribbean for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and as an advisor to President Carter for programs in Latin America. He holds a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires and a Masters degree in International Law from American University.

"I'm delighted to welcome Santiago A. Canton to the RFK Center as our new Director of Partners for Human Rights. This program is a key initiative of our organization and a powerful tool for empowering human rights defenders in their work around the world. I know his experience and record of leadership will enable us to increase our impact even further," said Kerry Kennedy, President of the RFK Center.

"It is an honor to join the RFK Center's efforts to advance the dignity of every person and protect the right of everyone to live free of violence and discrimination," Canton said. "The work of Partners for Human Rights empowers individuals and organizations fighting for justice throughout the world, and I'm so pleased to be part of building this program's continued success."

Canton will begin his transition in the coming weeks and will join the RFK Center offices full-time in July 2012.
