Más de 200 personas heridas este viernes por disparos de armas de fuego a una manifestación contra la dictadura. El Consejo de Seguridad no se ha pronunciado.
Sanáa.- Al menos 50 personas murieron y más de 200 resultaron heridas este viernes por disparos de armas de fuego contra una multitudinaria manifestación que reclama la salida del dictador yemení, Alí Abdalá Saleh, quien decretó el estado de emergencia en el país.
Esta ha sido la jornada más sangrienta desde el comienzo de las manifestaciones contra Saleh, de 68 años, a finales de enero. Hasta ahora, el sátrapa se benefició del apoyo del régimen estadounidense, que lo considera como un aliado en la lucha contra los seguidores de Osama bin Laden en la península arábiga, señaló AFP.
Esta medida se adoptó poco después que matones del régimen con apoyo policial dispararan con armas de fuego contra manifestantes en Sanáa para exigir su retirada del poder, que ostenta desde hace 32 años, dejando al menos 41 muertos y más de 200 heridos.
Las víctimas de esta matanza, sin precedente desde la violencia civil de 1994 en este país pobre de 24 millones de habitantes, llevan a más de 80 el balance de muertos desde el inicio del movimiento popular de protestas, en enero.
Manifestantes gritan consignas contra la dictadura en la plaza de la Universidad. Como se puede apreciar, no portan banderas monárquicas como los "rebeldes" libios.
Según testigos, los matones del régimen abrieron fuego sobre miles de manifestantes desde los tejados de edificios próximos a la Plaza de la Universidad, donde se lleva a cabo una sentada desde el 21 de febrero en demanda de la salida de Saleh del poder.
Los disparos comenzaron cuando los manifestantes intentaron desmantelar una barricada instalada por matones del régimen para bloquear una de las calles de acceso a la Plaza de la Universidad, según un periodista de la AFP en el lugar. La policía arrojó granadas lacrimógenas sobre los manifestantes y les disparó con armas de fuego.
El tiroteo, en el que participaron policías y matones, se extendió por más de una hora y media, de acuerdo al testimonio del periodista de la AFP. Los manifestantes subieron al techo de un inmueble donde estaba emboscado un tirador y lo arrojaron al vacío, dijo el periodista.
"La mayor parte de los heridos fueron alcanzados por balas en la cabeza, el cuello y el pecho", dijo un médico a la AFP.
Los cuerpos se amontonaban en un hospital de campaña instalado por los opositores en la Plaza de la Universidad, y varios médicos han denunciado que les faltan medicamentos y equipos.
La oposición acusó al régimen de haber cometido "una masacre". "Esta matanza no contribuirá a mantener a Alí Abdalá Saleh en el poder", afirmó en una declaración a la cadena al Arabiya el portavoz de la oposición parlamentaria, Mohamed al Sabri.
"Hacemos a Saleh y a sus hijos (que controlan varios organismos de seguridad) directamente responsables de este crimen premeditado y no escaparán del castigo", precisó.
Los manifestantes habían comenzado a desfilar coreando la consigna de que "el pueblo quiere la caída del régimen".
Miles de personas acampan desde el 21 de febrero en la Plaza de la Universidad, en Saná, exigiendo la partida de Saleh. Ellos ya han sido blanco de repetidos ataques de la policía y de partidarios del jefe de Estado.
