Hundreds of thousands of Italians took to the streets of Rome over the weekend to protest against the policies of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The protest march was organised by Walter Veltroni, leader of the Democratic party, Italy's largest opposition party.
The opposition has put the estimate of the number of people who turned out at 2.5 million people.
Some four million Italians have signed petitions over the past weeks, expressing concern about the Berlusconi government's anti-immigrant policies.
Many Italians are also deeply dissatisfied with the prime minister's handling of the economy, inflation and cuts to public services. |
