Access to Indymedia Ä°stanbul is banned!
28 mar 2008
Indymedia is being tried to be silenced by censorship, but it's just a try. The prosecuters of Turkish Republic has not yet learn that the censorship in internet is technically impossible. Indymedia continues its broadcasting. You may access to Indymedia by various ways.
" Independent Media Center - Ä°stanbul (Indymedia Ä°stanbul) has been initiated by a group of people in January 2003. In the mission statement of Indymedia Ä°stanbul it is mentioned that "the mainstream and dominant media tools and/or the cartels provide false/incorrect or imperfect information/knowledge/data by distorting many realities according to the status quo which the sovereigns of the world and the countries are adherent.

This initiative aims to organize its own information network without disregarding the information resources both in Turkey and abroad, and to make its voice to be heard by the masses in Turkey and abroad -despite that the internet is still a media tool which has a limited access for many people.

The website has aimed and still working to be against the destructive effects of all mediatic distortions, and to convey the information according to formula of "what, why, how, where, when and by whom".

Independent Media Center - İstanbul (Indymedia İstanbul) will be a medium for the people who cannot utter their voice through dominant media tools. Through these five years İstanbul Indymedia had been working continuously, without compromising from any of these principles.

In the first hours of the ban, there was a message on the blocking page which read: “The access to the site has been banned by ‘Telecommunication Communication Presidency' due to court decree of Gaziantep, Araban Criminal Court, dated 21/03/2008 with no: 2008/418-171. Whereupon three lawyers from the city center of Gaziantep, moved to Araban district to get the decree of the court, found out that the court had no decree for that number or about the ban of İstanbul Indymedia . After the lawyers went away from Araban to Gaziantep, our site had been unbanned for a while. After a short period, İstanbul Indymedia was banned again, and there was a different message on the ban page which read: “The access to the site has been banned by ‘Telecommunication Communication Presidency' due to court decree of General Staff Presidency Military Court, dated 21/03/2008 with no: 2008/418-171. Although the dates and the decree number were the same, Gaziantep, Araban Criminal Court was replaced with General Staff Presidency Military Court. The access to the site is still banned by Turkish Telecommunication Company's DNS servers.

Indymedia is being tried to be silenced by censorship, but it's just a try. The prosecuters of Turkish Republic has not yet learn that the censorship in internet is technically impossible. Indymedia continues its broadcasting. You may access to Indymedia by various ways. Some of them are:

1. http://istanbul.bbm.indymedia.org address
2. Access through http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html
3. By changing the DNS keys of your network connection.

You may apply 2nd and 3rd methods for all inaccessable/banned sites.

We are trying our best for making the access to http://istanbul.indymedia.org possible. Our broadcasting from http://istanbul.indymedia.org still continues. We are trying to overcome this ban by announcing the access methods to the people who are trying to access İstanbul Indymedia from Turkey through Turkish Telecommunications (Türk Telekom) connections.

With solidarity.
