La policia britànica s'ha endut el servidor d'Indymedia de Bristol. Durant l'operació policial, que es va fer ahir però s'ha fet pública avui, també es va detenir un dels voluntaris d'Indymedia de Bristol. La setmana passada la policia ja havia demanat l'accés al servidor per aconseguir les adreces IP dels autors de les notícies de la columna de publicació oberta. Sembla que la policia s'ha endut el servidor perquè busca el responsable d'un article que es va publicar a la columna de publicació oberta de l'Indymedia de Bristol el passat 17 de juny en què un activista anònim reivindicava una acció en un tren de mercaderies que transportava cotxes nous. No és la primera vegada que la policia confisca un servidor d'Indymedia, a l'octubre una vintena de webs d'Indymedia de diferents llocs d'Europa van quedar inaccessibles durant unes hores quan l'FBI va fer una operació contra els servidors RackSpace, amb seus als EUA i la Gran Bretanya. De moment, els voluntaris d'Indymedia ja han rebut el suport de la Unió Nacional de Periodistes d'Anglaterra i Irlanda i d'altres organitzacions de periodistes.

Indymedia Bristol Server Seized by Police
On Monday, June 27th, Indymedia Bristol's server was seized by the police. An Indymedia volunteer was also arrested during the raid. Last week, police demanded access to the server to gain the IP details of a posting. The alternative media outlet is receiving advice from civil liberties organisations and the NUJ. Before being legally forced to hand over the server, Indymedia Bristol stated: "We do not intend to voluntarily hand over information to the police as they have requested". A further statement from Bristol Indymedia volunteers is expected soon.
This is the second time that law enforcement authorities have attacked Indymedia servers in the UK in the run up to a major event. Last October, just prior to the European Social Forum, Indymedia servers in London were seized in an international law enforcement operation - prompting a wave of protests and solidarity statements from a wide range of organisations [report]. This time, events are unfolding one week before the G8 Summit begins in Scotland.
