Yes ! to the Catalan National Teams
International Roller Sports Federation denies Catalonian membership that was formerly accepted in march.
Last November 26th, the International Roller Sports Federation (FIRS) has revoked his previous decision (March 2004) to accept the affiliation of Catalonian Roller Sports Federation in the FIRS. It would allow to Catalonia to compete with their own team at international official competitions.
The Spanish government has pressed politically to the rest of the international federation members of the FIRS to induce them to vote against it in the votation Committee. Finally the FIRS Committee has denied the Catalonian membership for 6 votes to 3. The FIRS President, Isidre Oliveras (from Catalonia), was absent in the votation and declined to participate in the votation.
In Catalonia, we think an opportunity to recognize the rights of the different nations to compete in sports has been lost because of politics. We can accept the FIRS decision, but not in this way. The FIRS has lost credibility and his criteria.
Which is the correct decision, the march one or this new one ? Which is the difference between Scotland, Wales or other stateless nations and Catalonia ?. In our opinion, the answer is clear : A centralistic Spanish government and the power of their political pressure.
In Catalonia we'll going on talking, explaining, and telling to everybody who wants to listen that Catalonia is a nation and wants to be internationally recognized as it in all sports.
So, we encourage you to send this email to anyone who love sports and thinks everybody is free to compete with its own land.
